Midas Blood Drive for American Red Cross (Mid-Atlantic Blood Services Region)

On April 18, 2020, Everything Sports Complex, 10810 Paulbrook Boulevard, Midlothian, VA 23112 hosted the Midas Blood Drive.  We were approached by Marla Watson, Account Manager for Donor Recruitment.  They needed a place big enough to suffice social distancing standards to make it safe for donors to give and not have to cancel.

The American Red Cross workers and volunteers were awesome, very professional and courteous.  It was great seeing so many smiling faces through their masks.  Everyone entering the complex were pre-screened and were provided mask if they didn’t have their own.

Through the smooth melodic Motown jazz tunes, many joyously came and gave (official stats coming soon).  We had people of all ages.  There was one family that gave, the parents were the veteran blood donors, but their sons were first-timers.  Some parents signed consent so their teenagers could donate.  Kevin, a manager at Midas-Hull Street donated and was there to provide coupons for free oil changes for all that participated.

We spoke with Roger Gardner, District Manager Donor Recruitment, and he expressed why they were happy to be at Everything Sports, “So the biggest issue with blood, the need for blood right now is that we have so many blood drives canceled due to the schools particularly the high schools and colleges being out.  Many of our business partners are unable to provide blood drives ‘cause they simply don’t have the space.  And the other issue is even many of our business partners, Dominion, Nationwide, CarMax are just not working at their offices, they’re all working from home, so it’s made a very difficult situation for blood drives.  So any place we could find that has plenty of space to allow for social distancing, we really appreciate it.”

Even though non-essential businesses are closed because of this pandemic, Everything Sports Complex has found a way to be essential by allowing others the opportunity to donate in efforts to help save lives.
